Beit Ahavah, the Reform Synagogue of Greater Northampton, was the victim of a hate crime when it was attacked with an emailed bomb threat on Sunday, Nov. 19.

That led to the evacuation of the building at 130 Pine St. in Florence, which the synagogue shares with the Florence Congregational Church and Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity. No device was found.

The threat was one of several made against Jewish congregations across the United States, including others in New England, in recent days.

I sent the following statement to Riqi Kosovske, a constituent who is the rabbi at Beit Ahavah:

I unequivocally condemn the threat made Nov. 19 against Beit Ahavah, the Reform Synagogue of Greater Northampton, that is part of a coordinated increase in antisemitic attacks across the state and nation intended to sow fear, division and intimidation in the Jewish community.

Such acts of hatred are reprehensible, morally indefensible and cannot be tolerated in our community. I stand in solidarity with the Beit Ahavah community and all of my Jewish friends, neighbors and colleagues in solidarity against antisemitism in any form.
